My forties crisis?

It was an afternoon like any other. I was scrolling on social media to pass the time when I stumbled with a random post.

It read: “Forties in the new thirties”. The content wasn’t that impressive. On the other hand the title left me thinking and searching a bit deeper. So I am 44, officially an adult with responsibilities but no kids.

It actually left me with more questions:

What have I accomplished?

Why do I feel like my parents did get more done at my age?

Well, there might not be straight answers. We all have felt in one point or another that life has just past us by. And, at the end of the day, what have we to show for? We might even end up writing a list of things that make us proud during our years of existence. And it is true what they say: we are given a set of playing card in our life and it’s how we play them. How we move forward. Without bitterness.

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. A sense of hope for the future. Mainly because I love learning. Learning from books and also others people lives.

We are social creatures and sharing with some people at a filming gig this week brought this home even further. Many of them have travelled, changed careers, even reinvented themselves. Some started sharing parent tips and how smartphones have made things more difficult.

Others went on to share stories about how people can get together with others from different sides of the community. All this through a party with food and laughter.

We all have a story to tell and there are always lesson to be learned.

This is a draft and I would like to expand on the subject. Sorry I ended up writing in English, for some reason it felt more natural
